PS5, Xbox or PC: Which Racing Wheels Work on Which Platform, and Why

A PS5 racing wheel will not work on an Xbox, and an Xbox racing wheel will not work on a PlayStation. Almost every console wheel is sold in two versions, one for each console family, and both versions also work on PC. So the first decision is not which wheel is best. It is which console you own, because that decides which version of each wheel you can buy. This guide explains why the split exists and shows which version of each wheel covers which platform, using the manufacturers' own platform lists.

Quick Answer

  • PlayStation: buy the PlayStation version. It is listed for PS5, PS4 and PC.
  • Xbox: buy the Xbox version. It is listed for Xbox and PC.
  • PC only: any version works, and some wheels are made for PC alone.
  • Both consoles: no wheel in the table below is listed for PlayStation and Xbox together. Pedals, shifters and some wheel rims can be shared between bases.

Why Racing Wheel Compatibility Differs by Platform

A console only works with wheels made under its own licensing programme. Sony refers to racing wheels from "PlayStation's licensed partners". Microsoft describes Designed for Xbox as a licensing programme that gives partners its technical specifications, and lists racing wheels among the product categories.

The certification belongs to the individual wheel. Thrustmaster says of one of its Xbox wheels that the built-in software is certified for the console, which is why the console recognises it automatically. A manufacturer therefore sells a PlayStation version and an Xbox version of the same wheel. Neither the console makers nor the wheel makers publish the technical detail of how a console checks a wheel, so we have not described it here.

A PC has no equivalent gate. Thrustmaster and Logitech both state PC compatibility for their PlayStation and Xbox versions, with the maker's driver or software installed.

Which Version Works on Which Platform

These are the platform lists on Thrustmaster's and Logitech's own product pages, checked in October 2026.

Wheel PlayStation version Xbox version PC
Thrustmaster T598 T598 (PlayStation / PC): PS5, PS4 T598 (Xbox / PC): Xbox Both versions
Thrustmaster T248 Officially licensed for PS5 and PS4 T248 (Xbox / PC): officially licensed for Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One Both versions
Thrustmaster T248R T248R: PS5, PS4 None listed Yes
Thrustmaster T128 PS5, PS4 Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One Both versions (Windows 10/11)
Thrustmaster T-GT II PS5, PS4 None listed Yes
Thrustmaster TX and TS-XW None listed Xbox Yes
Thrustmaster TS-PC Racer None listed None listed PC only
Logitech G29 / G920 / G923 G29, and the PlayStation G923 G920, and the Xbox G923 All versions. Logitech also lists a PC-only G923

One older wheel needs care. Thrustmaster lists the T300RS for PC, PS3 and PS4. It separately publishes a list of PS5 games it has tested with that wheel, and says that this PS5 compatibility had not been tested or endorsed by Sony at the time of publication. If PS5 is your platform, a wheel that lists PS5 outright is the safer purchase. You can compare current models in the Thrustmaster and Logitech collections, where each listing names its platform in the title.

Do Older Wheels Work on Newer Consoles?

PS4 wheel on PS5: Sony stated in 2020 that officially licensed racing wheels will work with PS5 games and supported PS4 games. It added that not every licensed or third-party peripheral may work on PS5, and recommended checking with the manufacturer for the product and the specific game.

Xbox One wheel on Xbox Series X|S: Thrustmaster states on its TX and TS-XW pages that on Xbox Series X|S the wheel also works with the Xbox One compatible games it lists. Microsoft's support site covers accessory carry-over as well, and tells owners to check the device manufacturer's website if an accessory is not listed there.

In both cases the answer depends on the game as well as the wheel. Manufacturers publish per-game compatibility lists, so check yours before you buy a wheel for one title.

What You Can Share Between Platforms

The wheel is sold per console family, but much of what attaches to it is not. Thrustmaster's own descriptions:

  • Pedals: the T3PM pedal set is listed for PS5, PS4, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S and PC.
  • Shifter: the TH8S is compatible on PS5, PS4, Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S with Thrustmaster force feedback wheels, and with all racing wheels on PC.
  • Wheel rims: the EVO Racing 32R Leather rim is described as compatible with Thrustmaster force feedback bases on PlayStation, Xbox and PC. On Xbox, some features (encoders, LEDs, number of buttons) are limited by the console's protocol.

So a household with both consoles can share pedals, a shifter and some rims between a PlayStation wheel and an Xbox wheel. Our wheel and pedal combo guide covers how to choose within a platform, and direct drive vs belt vs gear drive explains the base types. Bases sold separately are in the wheel bases collection.

Using a Console Wheel on PC

Both console versions work on PC, so choose the version that matches your console and use the same wheel on a computer later. Thrustmaster's support site tells PC users to install the latest driver for their wheel, and its T598 settings software, My Thrustmaster Panel, is PC only. Logitech uses its G HUB software for wheel settings on PC. If you are starting on PC and may add a console, see our beginner sim racing setup guide for the order to buy in.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I use a PS5 racing wheel on Xbox?

No. A PlayStation version is listed for PS5, PS4 and PC only. For Xbox you need the Xbox version of the wheel.

Is there a racing wheel that works on both PS5 and Xbox?

None of the Thrustmaster or Logitech wheels covered here lists both console families. Each is sold in separate PlayStation and Xbox versions.

Does an Xbox racing wheel work on PC?

Yes. Thrustmaster and Logitech both list PC alongside Xbox for their Xbox versions. Thrustmaster's support site says to make sure your PC has the latest driver for the wheel.

Will my PS4 wheel work on PS5?

Often, but check. Sony says officially licensed PS4 racing wheels work with PS5 games and supported PS4 games, and also says not all peripherals may work, so confirm with the manufacturer for your wheel and game.

Match the Version to Your Console

Read the platform in the product title before anything else, then compare force feedback and pedals within that version.
