The FlightScope i4 Rangefinder is a laser rangefinder with slope measurement that can also work with the FS Golf mobile app. Straight out of the box it measures direct distance and slope. Paired with the app in FS Mode, it adds an effective playing distance and a club recommendation based on the laser distance, elevation, live local weather, the wind direction you select, and your own carry or launch data.
Most laser rangefinders tell you how far away the target is. The i4 is designed to help with the next question: which club to hit under today's conditions. In FS Mode it combines the measured distance, slope, local weather and your personal club profile.
Golfers who want a phone-free device should know the split clearly. Direct distance and slope work on the rangefinder alone; the playing-distance and club-recommendation features need the FS Golf app, Bluetooth, cellular data and your phone within about 30 feet.
In FS Mode, the i4 recommends a club using the laser distance to the pin, your personal launch or gapping data, real-time weather, environmental conditions and the wind direction you select. Because the recommendation is based on your own profile, it is more relevant than a generic club chart that assumes every golfer produces the same speed and trajectory.
Built from carry distances or launch data such as ball speed, launch angle and spin.
FlightScope pulls local weather data including air pressure and temperature into the calculation.
You set the wind direction with the mode button; wind speed comes from local weather stations.
Alongside the direct laser distance, FS Mode shows an effective playing distance that accounts for elevation and current conditions. It uses your home location as the reference, so a course at a different altitude or in different weather is expressed relative to the conditions you normally play in.
Your home course conditions serve as the reference for effective distance elsewhere.
The viewfinder displays the direct distance to target alongside the FS Mode readings.
Inside FS Golf you enter your home location, clubs and carry information to create a personalized club-distance table. Launch data can be added where you have it. The more representative the profile, the more useful the recommendations.
Builds a club table from your carry distances or launch data, without extra equipment.
FlightScope launch monitor owners can select or run a gapping session in the FS Golf app.
FlightScope states data can be added by CSV file from any launch monitor, including FS Golf PC session exports.
Slope mode adjusts the distance for uphill and downhill shots. A short press of the mode button turns slope on and off, and a slope indicator shows which mode is active. FS Mode always includes slope, and FS Mode is disabled by turning Bluetooth off.
FlightScope publishes a range of 5 to 1,000 yards, a measurement speed of 0.05 seconds and accuracy of +/- 1 yard. Real-world target acquisition still varies with target size, reflectivity, lighting, weather, hand stability and line of sight.
The viewfinder uses 6x magnification with adjustable focus.
Hold the power button and move across the flag until the target-detection indicator appears, then release for the distance.
Press and hold the mode button to switch the unit of measurement.
At 180 grams (6.35 ounces), the i4 suits one-handed use and bag storage. The built-in magnet attaches it to metal golf-cart surfaces.
Internal 3.7V 730mAh polymer lithium battery; FlightScope lists an estimated charging time of 2 hours.
Up to 15,000 measurements per charge, or up to 500 hours of run time, per FlightScope.
FlightScope ships the i4 with a baseline storage charge only.
The i4 carries an IPX4 weather-resistance rating, and FlightScope states it is designed to withstand light rain during a round.
